"The Killer Inside Me" by Jim Thompson

Read the book to see if it gave some clues to the movie, which I watched because Simon Baker appears in it. The answer is 'no', but it was an interesting read. Having seen the movie and read the book, I have to admit that the ending is still ambiguous

"Salem's Lot" by Stephen King

It was an amusing enough read, but has become dated because vampire mythology has evolved quite a bit since this book was written. It doesn't help that the book takes itself seriously. Tongue depressors taped into a cross as a successful weapon against vampires is a bit much.

"The Hero's Walk" by Anita Ray Badami

I don't remember much about this book, except for the fact that I liked it. When I read it, I didn't know its place in Canadian literature, but now it's up for Canada Reads, so it must be fairly well liked. It would be interesting to reread it, now that I've become more familiar with Indian culture, because of my acquaintance with Kanak.

"Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town" by Stephen Leacock

I'm actually posting this in 2017, so I don't remember a thing about the book, except that it was enjoyable. But apparently I didn't like it enough to search out other titles by him. Eva just recommended his Arcadian Tales. She says it's better than this book, so I'll give it a go.

“Martin Chuzzlewit” by Charles Dickens

I’m posting this on Dec 31, 2018, but I actually read it years ago. I remember enjoying it, but it did not make much of an impression on me, (since I barely recall reading it) apart from surprise that Dickens had the U.S. as a backdrop for one of his novels. I’m posting this now because I just watched the movie “The Man Who Invented Christmas” and it has revived my interest in Dickens. I actually think he was the most influential writer in my life.... Dry humour and compassion for the downtrodden.

"The Winter Vault" by Anne Michaels

Eva recommended this Canadian book to me, but it was too poetic for my taste. There were interesting bits about building the Aswan dam in Egypt. Polish people appeared in the book as well. I gave it to my mother.

"The Godspeaker Trilogy" by Karen Miller

Loaned to me by Christine Mattson. Interesting read in the fantasy genre. Much of the interpersonal relations were written very maturely, and I liked that very much. But there were eventually too many 'speaking to god' and 'signs from god' moments
